UK energy department releases 2014 liquid biofuel data


The U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change has released provisional annual energy statistics for 2014, reporting that biodiesel accounted for 3.4 percent of total diesel last year while ethanol accounted for 4.6 percent of gasoline.

According to the DECC, 1.767 billion liters (466.79 gallons) of liquid biofuels were consumed in the transportation sector last year, up 11.5 percent from the 1.586 billion liters consumed in 2013. Biodiesel consumption increased by 25 percent, from 766 million liters in 2013 to 955 million liters last year. Ethanol consumption, however, fell by 0.9 percent, from 820 million liters in 2013 to 812 million liters in 2014.
