Brazilian state-run oil company producing biodiesel from tilapia waste

Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras is producing biodiesel from tilapia waste, but it sees a need for further research to develop fish oil usage to make biofuel.

Production of biodiesel from residual fish oil has started at the company’s facility in Quixada, in the state of Ceara, a Petrobras’ spokesperson toldUndercurrent News.

“We estimate buying around 15 metric tons per month of fish waste from around 300 fishing families, producers of tilapia ponds, until the end of this year,” the spokesperson said.
