A division of Ames-based Renewable Energy Group Inc. is providing biodiesel-blended fuel for the 78 CyRide buses serving Ames and Iowa State University, marking the biofuel company’s first partnership with a municipality.
REG Energy Services LLC began providing 350,000 gallons of fuel with biodiesel blends of as much as 20 percent on Jan. 1, according to a news release the company issued Monday.
The agreement, the news release said, will increase CyRide’s usage of biodiesel under an agreement with REG that will result in the use of fuel with higher biodiesel blends during summer months. The partnership, it said, will reduce carbon emissions by as much as 658 tons over the course of the year.
