USB celebrates Chevy’s biodiesel vehicle Cruze

Big-city auto shows aren’t the first places U.S. soybean farmers look for good news, but this is changing as more and more cars have the capability to run on biodiesel, including the newly-unveiled Chevrolet Cruze, announces the United Soybean Board. Details of the new Cruze, which runs on a 20 percent blend of biodiesel (B20), were released during the Chicago Auto Show in February. The car was lauded again during the Twin Cities Auto Show in March.

This light-duty diesel passenger car is expected to get an estimated 42 miles to the gallon on the highway. Chevrolet says that by using B20, the Cruze will be “the cleanest diesel passenger car ever produced by General Motors.”

Soy oil remains the primary feedstock for U.S. biodiesel production. The soy checkoff partners with the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) on biodiesel promotion and research, including projects to study biodiesel clean-air benefits.
