Biofuels are key to global energy security, say participants at the 2013 World Biofuels Markets Congress and Exhibition. And with the right support, the production of biofuels can continue to increase in a sustainable way.
The International Energy Agency (IEA), which works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for the world, believes the sector’s rapid growth can be maintained only if important issues are addressed by the global community.
Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, and a keynote speaker at World Biofuels Markets Congress and Exhibition 2013 said: “The biofuels sector continues to make an increasing contribution to the world’s transport fuel supply, with production set to grow by 25 per cent over the next 5 years.
"It is important however that industry and policy stakeholders continue to address the economic, environmental and social challenges that the sector is facing to ensure biofuels are a sustainable part of our future energy mix."
