A handful of Oregon entrepreneurs entered the biodiesel industry in the past five years with high hopes for what the renewable fuel could bring to the state.

The largest producer of biodiesel in the state, SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel in Salem, recently sold its 10 millionth gallon of biodiesel since 2008 — something the company calls a milestone.

"Our plant is reaching new heights every month, and we're going to keep pushing forward," said Tyson Keever, general manager of SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel.

The fuel is made from renewable sources such as vegetable oils and animal fats.

Nationally, the biodiesel industry is having a record year, according to the National Biodiesel Board.

But the industry's growth hasn't come without its share of challenges.

"We've gone through good times and bad times," Keever said.
