American Biodiesel Inc., a company that operates a biodiesel production facility in Stockton, is getting a $474,405 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand production.

The Encinitas-based company does business as Community Fuels.

“I applaud the efforts of Community Fuels to educate fleet managers, farmers, elected officials and consumers about the benefits of biodiesel and renewable fuel use and production. Biodiesel reduces our dependence on foreign oil, provides jobs in our community and protects our environment,” says Rep. Jerry McNerney, who announced the grant.

Currently, the facility in the Port of Stockton industrial park produces 13 million gallons of biodiesel each year, with a goal of expanding to 60 million gallons or more. The funds from USDA will be put to work immediately to purchase raw materials to support higher production volumes.
