Flórida, Estados Unidos, deve impulsionar biocombustíveis através de incentivos

While Florida’s Legislature has come under criticism for an abundance of bad legislation this session, good bills sometimes fly under the public’s radar. One of Bradenton Sen. Mike Bennett’s many, many bills promotes biodiesel -- both as a way to mitigate our dependence on foreign oil and as a job-creation measure intended to boost both the agricultural and biofuel industries across the state.

Bennett’s bill, co-sponsored by the Senate’s Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Commerce and Tourism, passed unanimously in both panels.

The measure also enjoys broad support from government associations, the business community and environmental organizations. And rightly so.

Unfortunately, SB 1284 does not enjoy a companion bill in the House. But Bennett’s effort this year should lay the groundwork for a full-court press next year, and we encourage one of the House members of the Manatee County legislative delegation to sponsor similar legislation in that chamber in 2012.
