The city of Minneapolis has a new weapon for snow removal.
With snow dumping sites at a premium, the city's new tool in its arsenal is a biodiesel-fired Snow Dragon that can melt 30 tons of snow an hour.
The 9 million BTU boiler separates pollutants and trash and sends the clean water down a storm drain. The city had several mobile melters several decades ago, but the older models frequently clogged, spit out dirty water and used twice as much diesel.
The Star Tribune says federal money covered the majority of the $250,000 cost.
