Lurking underneath the streets of London, a giant clump of congealed human waste hit the headlines last week. The so-called ‘fatberg’ is 820ft (250 metres) long and formed from a mixture of fat, grease, oil, wet wipes and sanitary products. It weighs the same as 11 double-decker buses.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5206613641099404898.post-47645953080717439972017-09-14T15:18:00.002+01:002017-09-14T15:18:18.701+01:00Argentina starts shipping biodiesel to EU again, exports to rise<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Argentina has starting shipping biodiesel supplies to the European Union, returning to what was once its biggest market after a four-year legal battle over import tariffs, buoying expectations of export growth, an industry representative said Wednesday. <br />The European Commission last November presented its draft proposal to review the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) for the post-2020 period as part of a Clean Energy Package. The EU executive proposed to reduce the contribution of conventional biofuels in transport from a maximum of 7% in 2021 to 3.8% in 2030. It also set an obligation to raise the share of other ‘low emissions fuels’ such as renewable electricity and advanced biofuels in transport to 6.8%.</div>

Washington trade watchdogs are due by Monday to rule on whether Argentina and Indonesia have, as some industry leaders claim, been "dumping" biodiesel on the US – ie, thanks to "unfair subsidisation", exporting it at levels deemed below fair value.</div>

The rapid depletion of fossil fuel heightens the need for governments to start implementing measures to reduce its dependency on natural oil and gas. Alternative sources of energy is needed to aid this shift from traditional fossil fuel, but not many are ready to make that full leap into green or renewable technology. Hence comes the biodiesel – a blend of vegetable oil with traditional fuel that is more environmentally friendly.</div>

U.S. congressional leaders have introduced a bipartisan bill that would convert the blender’s credit for biodiesel to a $1-per-gallon production credit for fuels produced in the United States for three years. The bill also provides an additional 10-cent-per-gallon credit for small U.S. biodiesel producers. The previous biodiesel tax credit expired at the end of 2016, and was open to blenders of biodiesel.</div>
